This is Gerri's 10th summer as Head Coach of the Palisades Swim Team. She grew up in Bethesda and swam for the Tilden Woods Dolphins where she coached for five seasons. She swam four years at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, and earned her Masters of Arts in Teaching from American University. She teaches second grade at Bethesda Elementary and will begin Hood College's school leadership certification program in the fall.
Jen grew up in the Finger Lakes Region of NY. She began swimming at age 6 and was named recently to her High School Hall of Fame. Jen was a standout swimmer for her club team and high school team and captain her senior year at Watkins Glen High School. She attended The College at Brockport, NY where she swam all four years and was a captain her senior year. Jen broke four school records during her tenure at Brockport and has numerous Top 10 times for Brockport. She was named the SUNYAC Conference Athlete of the week three times and swim team MVP her senior year. Jen currently coaches at Woodrow Wilson High School, DC where she teaches Physical and Health Education. Jen has worked with various levels of swimmers and is excited for her third summer at Palisades. She is eager to share her love of swimming with the long standing traditions of the Palisades Swim Team.
Claire Sorkin is a rising junior at Walt Whitman HS. She is thrilled to work this summer as a junior coach for the team. This will be her 12th summer swimming as a Palisades Porpoise. She has a lot of experience in the water, both as a competitive swimmer and as a coach. Last summer she was a volunteer assistant coach at Palisades. She worked at FINS Swimming throughout the school year as an assistant coach. She also swims competitively with All Star Aquatics and on her high school team. She loves swimming, and she can’t wait to pass her love of the sport on to the rest of the team. :)
Sophie Reilly just graduated Walt Whitman High School where she was a Captain of the Swim and Dive Team for the 2018-2019 season. This is her 12th year swimming in MCSL and this fall will be her 11th year competing year round at Nation’s Capital Swim Club. She is PVS scholar athlete, USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and Winter Junior Nationals Qualifier. During the school year, she is a volunteer coach with the Montgomery County Special Olympics swim team. This is her second year as Palisades Assistant Swim coach, where she holds team records in the 13-14 backstroke, 13-14 and 15-18 butterfly and the medley relay races. Sophie will attend and swim for Rice University in the fall.
Jack Spector is a rising sophomore at Walt Whitman High School. He has been swimming in the summer since he was six, starting at Mohican but proudly becoming a Porpoise at the age of nine. Jack loved being a volunteer junior coach for Palisades last summer and, after that great experience, he continued coaching during the school year as an assistant coach for FINS Swimming. Jack is a competitive year-round swimmer with Sea Devils and also swims for his high school team, the Whitman Vikings. Jack can't wait for another season of Palisades swimming! Go Porpoises!
Junior Assistant Coach
Alec Cooper will be a junior at Walt Whitman High School where he will compete in his third year of High School swimming. This will be his 12th year on Palisades, and he can’t wait to share it with everyone on the team. Alec is a year round swimmer who competes with Nations Capital Swim Club at the Junior National level. He has also earned an honorable mention in the Washington Posts All-Mets Swimmer Rankings, and is a contender for All-American honors. Through his experiences, he has learned the newest information on how to become a fast and more competent swimmer. He has worked with FINS Swim Club, and this will be his second year giving swim lessons. Alec's grandfather was an early member of Palisades and his mom Michelle, swam on the Porpoises coached by Clark Baugher of Georgetown Aquatics. He hold team backstroke records for 8 and under, 11-12, and 13-14, as well as the medley relay races. His favorite cheer is Rip Ram. He loves to swim and can’t wait for another season with the team he loves.
Junior Assistant Coach
Michael Paulos is a rising senior at Walt Whitman HS where he will be a captain for the 2019-2020 Walt Whitman Swim & Dive team. This is his 11th year as a Palidades Porpoise and his 10th year competing at Rockville Montgomery Swim Club where he is a national team qualifier. Michael is the team record holder of the 13-14 and 15-18 breast stroke and the medley relay races. His favorite Palisades cheer is Florida Oranges. He has lots of experience in the sport and wishes to pass it on to the younger kids on the team! This is his first year as a Palisades Junior Coach.
